Answer

This is a historical account of the very first day of this world’s existence. It’s a day when God started His work of creation. God established a 7-day week cycle when He ended His work on the 7th day of this world’s existence. Then, He blessed, sanctified and made holy the 7th day of the week, which is called the Sabbath. (See Genesis 2:1-3) This is the only text in the Old Testament that mentions the 1st day of the week (Sunday).

Notice: The 7th day Sabbath was established before there was any such thing as a Jew. It was made for all mankind, not just for Jews (Mark 2:27). The Sabbath was established before sin came into the world. Therefore, it was a perfect institution and not just something that God made as a remedy for sinful Jews.
