As Jesus warned his disciples of deceptions in the last days, He made an interesting statement. He said, “Remember Lot’s wife” Luke 17:32. What was it about Lot’s wife that made Him say this? Lot, along with his wife and two daughters, were saved from destruction when Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed by fire for their wickedness. Two angels took them by the hands and led them out of the city, warning them to escape Sodom and not to look back while the two angels destroyed the entire city with fire. All four of them made it out of the city safely before the angels burned the city to the ground. They were all saved at this point, but then Lot’s wife disobeyed the angel’s command and turned to look back at Sodom. The Bible says that she instantly turned into a pillar of salt right there in her tracks. Why did Lot’s wife disobey the angels? She was saved. Why didn’t the angel force her not to look back? Did Lot’s wife still have the freedom to disobey, even though she had been saved? Does a man loose his freedom of choice once he becomes a Christian? Can a saved man choose to be lost? In this lesson, we’re going to study what the Bible says about salvation, what part our choice plays in this all important issue, and how we can have assurance of salvation.
