Would the Resurrection make sence if everybody went straight to Heaven (or hell) upon death?

Answer

No, the many scriptures about the resurrection would be meaningless if people went straight to Heaven (or hell) immediately when they died. Jesus said that all who have died are in their graves and will hear His voice when He comes. Both the good and the bad will be called from their sleep of death by His voice at His coming and will receive their reward at that time. The good will be in the first resurrection (1 Thessalonians 4:16) and the bad will be in the second resurrection (Revelation 20, which we'll study in a future lesson).

The Resurrection event is perhaps the greatest news to reach human ears. It is the great hope Christianity gives to the world. Yet every major world religion besides Christianity denies this event by their world view on death. Buddists teach that after death a person is reincarnated. Hindus teach that your soul returns to live a new life cycle in advancing stages. Muslims teach that the body and soul separate at death, then after spending time in a transcient place, it goes to Paradise or Hell. Spiritualists believe like Muslims except they believe in communicating with the dead. If Christians teach that that when you die, you go straight to heaven or hell, wouldn't they be denying the resurrection just as all the other major world religions do? The truth from the Bible is that when we die, we sleep until the resurrection. The good news from Jesus Himself is "I Am the Resurrection and the Life" John 11:25. WATCH THE VIDEO CLIP below.
