No, the fire doesn't burn forever without end. The Bible teaches that those who choose not to believe in God's Son will perish in the fire, just like the wicked perished and were destroyed in the fire of Sodom and Gomorrah. The word perish means to die or cease living. In John 3:16, which is perhaps the most quoted verse in the Bible, Jesus tells us there are only two options for all humanity; 'Everlasting life' or 'perish'. If lost sinners were kept alive to be tormented with burning fire forever, they would not be able to perish. In Romans 6:23 the Bible says, "The wages of sin is death", not 'everlasting burning'. If the wages of sin were everlasting burning, then Jesus could not have paid the wages for our sin because He didn't burn forever, He died.
