The first beast (the beast with the mark) comes up from the sea. But this second beast comes up out of the earth. We learned in our last lesson that the sea represents a populated area (Rev 17:15). If the sea represents a populated area, then the earth represents an unpopulated area. The second beast, or nation, arises from a relatively unpopulated area. He also has lamb like, or Christian like, features. The Bible also says he arises just after the deadly wound of the first beast in 1798 (see vs. 10). QUESTION: What powerful nation arose after 1798, from an unpopulated area, and was founded upon Christian like principles? You guessed it! This second beast that helps the first beast is clearly the United States of America.

But the Bible says this second beast changes from being lamb like to speaking like a dragon. He eventually causes, or forces, the earth to worship the first Beast. The Bible is making a prediction here; The USA will eventually give up its principles of religious freedom and support the Papacy in enforcing a religious law, such as a Sunday law.
