Question 13

Will sin ever come back again?

Bible

Malachi 4:1

"The day comes that shall burn as an oven; and all that do wickedly shall be stubble; and the day that comes shall burn them up…it shall leave them neither root nor branch."

Nahum 1:9

"Affliction shall not rise up the second time."

Answer

The Lake of Fire will do it's work of destroying sin and unrepentant sinners once and for all. The language in Malachi couldn't be easier to understand. The fire will turn the wicked into "stubble". It will "burn then up". It will leave them "neither root nor branch". And once the fire has completed its work, sin will never rise up again.

STUBBLE BURNING was a well known activity to farmers and to the agrarian lifestyle of the people back in bible times. After the wheat was harvested, the remaining wheat stalks were burned so the field can be cultivated for planting a new crop. We still do this today. The word stubble in the book of Malachi calls upon this imagery as an example of what will happen to lost sinners in the Lake of Fire. Like the wheat stalks, they will be burned up and turned to ashes. That is what Malachi was saying when he used the word "Stubble". In Malachi 4:3 it says, "you shall trample the wicked, for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day that I do this".
