Question 10
Does the Seventh-day Adventist Church have a prophet?
Answer
Ellen G. White, one of the founders of the SDA Church, passes all the Biblical tests of a true prophet. Though never claiming the title of “Prophet” for herself, she counseled the church for 70 years. She wrote 15 million words in over 50 books, more than any woman in American history. She did all this with only a third grade formal education. She received over 2000 visions in her lifetime. Quoted frequently by the late Paul Harvey, her writings are a continual source of inspiration that drives the SDA church closer to the Bible and to Jesus. She never failed to lift up Jesus Christ and the Bible: “You may have all the possessions of this world; but I must have Jesus.” EG White, Testimonies to the Church vol. 2 p. 592
The late Paul Harvey said this about Ellen White in 1997:
"Her writings have been translated into 148 languages. More than Marx or Tolstoy, more than Agatha Christie, more than William Shakespeare. Only now is the world coming to appreciate her recommended prescription for optimum spiritual and physical health: Ellen White! You don't know her? Get to know her."
