Question 12
Does the Bible teach lifestyle and dress guidelines for God's true church?
Bible
1 Peter 3:3
"Whose adorning let it not be the outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and wearing of gold, or putting on of apparel."
Isaiah 3:16-21
"Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, the Lord will take away…their tinkling ornaments…the chains, the bracelets, the mufflers, the bonnets, and the ornaments of the legs, the headbands, and the tablets, the earrings, the rings, and nose jewels."
God's true church will follow all Biblical lifestyle guidelines
The Bible teaches guidelines on how God's people are to eat (Leviticus 11), behave (Ephesians 4:32), worship (Hebrews 10:25), marry (2 Corinthians 6:14), use money (1 Corinthians 4:2) and even how we dress: The Bible tells us not to adorn, or dress ourselves, in a proud way that would draw attention to us because of our outward apparel. Jesus was humble on the outside, but beautiful on the inside, and wants us to be this way too. Because of the dangers of pride, God asked his people to take off anything that was decorating their bodies. In Exodus, God’s people actually saved their lives by taking off their ornaments (jewelry) for God. (see Ex 33:4-6)
