Answer

The Bible tells us that man is safe to judge only after he should die. What about those who are alive when Jesus comes? For those alive at the end of time, Revelation tells us that God’s saints will be sealed before the final destruction of the earth (Revelation 7:3). That destruction comes in the form of 7 last plagues (Rev 15-16). The 7 last plagues fall only on the wicked, but the saints are protected through the plagues. At that time, human probation has closed; the saved will remain saved, and the lost will remain lost (see Rev 22:11).

The Bible does tell us of an exception to the above teaching in Hebrews 9:27. It is possible that a living person could commit the ‘unpardonable sin’, which is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. (See Mat 12:31) This happens when a person continually rejects the calling of the Holy Spirit until the Spirit no longer calls that person, or the person can no longer hear the Spirit calling. The Bible warns us, “grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.” Eph 4:30 A person shouldn’t worry that they’ve committed the unpardonable sin unless they no longer hear the Spirit’s call or no longer feel the desire to give up sin. If a person is at all concerned about sin in their lives, they apparently have not committed the unpardonable sin.
